LONNIE'S CORNER

Lonnie McCann, Service Tech Manager Seasonal spa use and spa care tips from Lonnie, our Service Tech Manager extraordinaire. He's seen them all!

WINTER'S HERE - SEASONAL TIPS

  • With a Hot Spring, you own the most energy-efficient spa made.   Your spa is designed to retain heat and not freeze even if the power is out for several days.
  • Don't forget - your Silver Ion cartridge should be changed every four months.  So just because it's cold out, don't neglect this!  (Leaving an AG+ cartridge in for longer than the recommended time can actually cause damage to your spa.)  Sign up for our automatic AG+ delivery program - and we'll remember for you!  Just Contact Us Electronically or call Trena at 503-650-8242.

BUT IF YOU'LL BE LEAVING DURING THE WINTER:

  • Gone for just a couple of weeks? Consider turning down the water temperature as much as 20 degrees - to 85o or so to save energy.
  • But do ask a friend to check on the spa if your area experiences a power outage just to be safe during a big freeze.
  • Gone for an extended period of time?  Drain and winterize your spa to prevent accidental freezing due to a power failure.
  • See your hot tub Owners Manual for instructions on winterizing your spa.
  • Note:  don't drain your spa if the outside temperature is below 45o - the drastic temperature difference is hard on any spa surface.
  • If you absolutely have to drain it, first turn down the spa's temperature setting and wait for the water to cool.  This will cause less shock and strain on the spa shell.
  • Or contact Oregon HotSpring Spas to do the winterization to save you the trouble.
